History

This site is dedicated to Mick who passed away unexpectedly in August 2005. He was a keen fisherman and a key driver, to the renovation and opening of the fishery.

Trapp Fishery was created in1989 by the current owner and fishing enthusiast,  John R Apps.

Wanting his own fishery near to his home,  John decided to go ahead and negotiate the purchase from his neighbour Tom "Verdre".  There followed a great deal of bemusement within the village, for there were those who thought John had bought really a wet patch and nothing else!

With the help of local contractors and farmers,  John created a small lake, surrounded with a fence, with the usual rights one would expect for access and maintenance.

In 1990, the lake was improved and later opened as a trout lake for guests in Ty-Isaf Cottages and the public. Trout were farmed in the small stew ponds for the renowned Ty-Isaf Restaurant.

This suited the need then, but with changing circumstances and new legislation governing accessibility, the lake was left to nature. John and his boys continued to fish up until fairly recently and generally the lake was seemingly  wild life centre.

In 2004, John took his partner Debbie, family and friend Mick, down to the lake and the river for a stroll. Unknown to John, Mick was a very enthusiastic fisherman, with both trout and course fisheries. Mick was gob-smacked and in short made it clear that it was a waste of a fantastic opportunity. He was convinced there was a great deal to offer with the fishery and that a mixed fishery open to the public would be a wonderful opportunity.

What you can see in the photographs is the fishery as captured in 2005 and since then there has been a further programme of improvement.

The next stage for the fishery is to build a new toilet, kitchen, shop and store facility on site with full disabled facilities.
